August 7, 2016

January 22, 1938 – August 04, 2016
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Alexander James (AJ) MacDougall. He was born in Judique in 1938 to the late John and Anna (MacIntyre) MacDougall.

Having lost both parents at an early age, AJ lived with his grandmother and then with Roddie and Ellen Graham.

He was predeceased by sisters Claudia Graham and Mary Cross; and brothers Gillis, Leslie, and Jerry Graham. He is survived by brother Ronnie Graham and sister, Sharon MacIssac.

After graduation, AJ moved to Halifax where he worked for NS Power and then became Assistant to Hon Bill MacEachern in the NS Legislature. After moving back to Judique, he worked at the heavy water pant and then attended StFX University. Shortly afterwards, AJ served Inverness County as Councillor and Warden for 16years.

A native Gaelic speaker, AJ spent many years promoting and teaching the language and mentoring many young people. Having served on several boards in Inverness County, as well as the Judique Fire Department, the Judique Community Centre, and the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre, AJ was always willing to lend a hand. He will be missed by many, but most especially by his nieces and nephews with whom he was so generous and gave so willingly of his time.

His remains will rest at Judique Fire Department on Sunday, Aug 7th from 1-5pm. Funeral mass will take place on Monday, Aug8th at 11am and will be celebrated by Fr.Allan MacMillan. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations can be made to the Building Fund of StAndrews Church in Judique.
