Alexander Daniel MacDonald 1932 – 2010

Alexander Daniel MacDonlald 78, of Halifax and Mabou, passed away peacefully Saturday morning November 6, 2010, with his family by his side in the VG Site, QE11, Palliative Unit.  Alexander will be dearly missed by his loving fanily and the many people he touched with his stories, music and spirited advice.  Alexander had a passion for Cape Breton fiddle music and its magical influence oon th the human ear.  Affectionately known as “gramps” Alexander was the happiest in the company of his adored grandchildren, John Alex (18), Thomas (16) and Patrick MacDonald (12); Kyle (13), Lauren (11), and Ryan Ramey (9).  A Professional engineer, Alexander worked for over 30 years at Nova Scotia Power and Montreal Engineering before retiring in 1992.  Since that time, Alexander spent his winters I Halifax near his family, and his summers running the Mabou Village Gallery with his wife Suzanne.  Alexander came to love spending his days in the gallery, helping visitors’ trace their roots and singing the praises of Cape Breton Island and its music.  His greatest joy was when the entire family visited during summer vacation.  Alexander leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Suzanne (Chrysler) MacDonald; cherished son, Sandy (Jan Cole) and daughter, Cathy (Scott Ramey).  Born November 24, 1931, in Mabou, Cape Breton, Alexander was the son of the late Angus Anthony and Catherine “Katie” Margaret MacDonald.  Alexander was predeceased by his sister, Mary (late Bernie) Beaton and is survived by his sister, Christy Anna (late Dougald)
