Callander House, a few miles from Falkirk is also worth a visit. The first stone building on the grounds was a tower house built in 1345. Subsequent extensions to the house were made in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.
Visitors exploring the house can still see the traces of architecture spanning five centuries. Callander House contains 600 years of Scotland’s history from medieval times to the 20th century. Mary Queen of Scots, Oliver Cromwell, and Bonnie Prince Charlie among other famous people has visited the house.
The building contains an early period kitchen, printer and clockmaker shop and many historical artifacts. There is an arts and crafts gallery and the grounds are beautifully maintained.
