The Sarah Burnell Band first came together in 2006, to record their début album, Sarah’ndipity. Sarah’ndipity created quite a buzz in the Canadian music scene, earning Sarah the 2006 Canadian Folk Music Award for “Best Young Performer”. Since then, this ensemble’s unique arrangements of Celtic music have won accolades across Canada. In June 2008, The Sarah Burnell Band released their critically-acclaimed second album, Return Ticket, and was honoured with two nominations for Return Ticket: Best Instrumental at the Ontario Independent Music Awards, and Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. On Return Ticket, the Sarah Burnell Band explores the influences of many other folk music cultures, including the Latin American, Gypsy-Jazz, and Galician sounds. This combination of the Celtic and World genres makes for an exciting musical journey!

The Sarah Burnell Band is known for their enjoyment of the Celtic tradition but also for their sense of musical adventure. They have performed at many summer folk festivals and folk series, including the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, the Ottawa Folk Festival, the Acoustic Harvest (Toronto) folk series, the Flying Cloud Folk Club (Toronto), and the Home County Folk Festival (London). They have also been featured in a series with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, focusing on the links between Celtic and Baroque genres. Audiences love their high-energy style!
