Tonight we celebrate the contributions Cape Breton women have made in the preservation and promotion of traditional Gaelic music. Bean An Taighe Mary-Jane Lamond is an international recording star and passionate supporter of Gaelic language. This concert will also feature Wendy MacIsaac of the band Béolach, accompanied by Maryanne Jewell a long-time supporter of Féis an Eilein, Bonnie-Jean MacDonald-Cutcliffe a championship and traditional piper, as well as Andrea Beaton who has made a name for herself performing at dance halls, concerts, céilidhs, and festivals. They will be joined by our Féis instructors Meaghan O’Handley, Jody MacKenzie and Anita MacDonald sharing Gaelic song and step-dance.
Some of Cape Breton’s finest musicians gather at the Christmas Island Fire Hall to share the stage with emerging talent and local tradition bearers in bilingual Gaelic-English concerts. A Traditional Tea including oatcakes and tea biscuits is served during intermission.
