Glasgow School of Art – Mackintosh’s Living Legacy

Although the innovative work of Glasgow-born architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh was widely known around the world, his genius was – until recently – largely ignored in the country of his birth. His masterwork is the Glasgow School of Art and 30 years ago it was not unusual for students to look up to see a visiting group of Japanese tourists recording the building on their Super 8 home movie cameras. There was a dearth of interest from Scots at that time. All that has changed – and these days there are just as many local Scots taking the tour as those from abroad .
