Yesterday’s Weather is a triumphant collection of postmodern, feminist, stories that take the reader into the deepest most confusing moments of everyday lives. The intensity of her style makes it impossible to read more than one at a sitting, but as the reader digests them, some of their moments begin to take hold of the mind, especially with her expression of those most familiar images such as the smell of a baby’s head in “Yesterday’s Weather” or the migraine in “Pale Hands” or the sense of impossibility of caring for an old boy friend in “Here’s to Love.” I was revolted by the couple in “Bad Sex Weekend” but then realized how many young people to live like this….anyway, the combination of revulsion and sympathy, or in “Shaft” of humor and frustration are the mark of truly fine writing.
