MacDONNELL, Thomas Alexander

— 73, of Judique, died December 20, 2009, in Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born in Judique, he was a son of the late John D. and Mary Catherine (MacKinnon) MacDonnell. Thomas was a lobster fisherman and was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Highways. He was a well known step dancer throughout Cape Breton. His unique style of dancing entertained many at concerts and dances throughout Cape Breton and inspired Donald Angus Beaton to compose the “Thomas MacDonnell Strathspey”. He is survived by daughter, Janet (Richard) Jamieson, Troy; sons, Rickey, Edmonton, Alta.; Marty, Toronto; David, Liverpool; Chris (Patricia Chandler), Judique; brothers, Stanley (Sally Parker), Windsor, Ont.; Lennie (Brenda Coolen), Hubbards; nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Noreen (MacIsaac), MacDonnell; sister, Catherine MacDonnell, Mass., and brother, Donald Gregory MacDonnell. Resting in Judique Fire Hall, today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be offered Wednesday at 11 a.m. from St. Andrew’s Church, Judique with Rev. Daniel MacLennan presiding, assisted by Rev. Allan MacMillan. Memorial donations may be made to Judique Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
