June 10, 2012

This year  promises More Variety and Greater Accessibility

Peter Yarrow, Plants and Animals, Kevin Parent, and Jim Kweskin to appear at the annual event in the Sud-Ouest

Montreal, April 26, 2012 – Hello Darlin’ Productions and Hyperbole Music are proud to announce that the fifth annual Folk Festival on the Canal presented by St-Ambroise will run from Thursday, June 14, to Sunday, June 17, 2012. Showcasing the best in folk music—in both official languages—along the picturesque Lachine Canal, this year’s event promises to be even more accessible to Montrealers.

“The Folk Festival on the Canal is all about creating a rich folk music experience in a fun, family-friendly environment with a number of local food options,” said Matt Large, co founder of the Folk Festival on the Canal and director of Hello Darlin’ Productions.
Legendary singer/songwriter Peter Yarrow of the prolific folk trio Peter, Paul, and Mary will kick off the festival on Thursday, June 14, at the Georges Vanier Cultural Centre in the Sud-Ouest borough. The opening gala will set the tone for a weekend of diverse music. Friday night, at the same location, music fans can enjoy an intimate evening with the incredible Jim Kweskin of the Kweskin Jug Band. Montreal’s very own Ever Lovin’ Jug Band—featuring members of the mythical Lake Of Stew—are thrilled to be joining Kweskin on stage for the festival.
Local and national acts will perform free concerts on Saturday and Sunday at an open air site on the Lachine Canal’s picturesque Îlot Charlevoix (adjacent to the Atwater Market). In partnership with the Arrondissement du Sud-Ouest and Parks Canada, the Montreal Folk Festival promises an unforgettable weekend of music. Two options sure to prove popular this year are the VIP package and the urban campout—a unique opportunity for one hundred families to spend the night under the stars at a downtown location.

In additional to musical performances, the festival also includes canoe tours on the Canal, a kids’ area, and local food vendors.

Die-hard folkies and folk neophytes alike will delight in this year’s line-up featuring award winning bands, folk-pop duos, alternative country groups, and traditional artists with names such as: Plants and Animals, Kevin Parent, Les Soeurs Boulay, Notre Dame de Grass, Rob Lutes, Dala, Bent by Elephants, and many more.

Details and tickets and campsite reservations are all available on the Folk Festival website at
