A beautifully printed small book on the Grosse Ile immigrant quarantine station that was published last year is now available in Montreal at the Canadian Centre for Architecture bookshop.
Published by Presentation House Gallery in Vancouver
as an extension of Eileen Leier’s 2003 photography exhibition.
Leier probes Canada’s primary and well-known point of immigration from Europe in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Reproductions of 30 of Leier’s Grosse Ile photographs,
plus texts by Anna Carlevaris from Montreal,
John Bryden (on Grosse Ile’s history as a chemical warfare research site in the 1940s), Eileen Leier (on her family’s passage through Grosse Ile) and the exhibition’s curator, Bill Jeffries.
