After the Reformation: Both England and Scotland abandoned the Roman Catholic Church for Calvinist Protestantism choosing different versions; Scottish Presbyterianism and English Episcopalians. This however, did not heal the hatred between them and they continued to persecute each other.
1603 Elizabeth the Tudor died unmarried and childless.
The throne passed to Elizabeth’s cousin, James son of Mary Queen of Scots. James V1 of Scotland now became James 1 of England.
The two kingdoms were ruled by the Stuarts for the next 100 years.
