Scottish songster sussing out Cape Breton contacts

August 5, 2011

Letters to the Editor (The Cape Breton Post)   Topics : Cape Breton , Blantyre , Glace Bay I am a Scottish writer, storyteller and singer, and am coming to Cape Breton in the second half of September to follow the tracks and learn about the songs and stories of a family of Scots coal miners, the Hollands and the Cosgroves from Blantyre and Hamilton, who immigrated to Glace Bay in the 1920s.

One of Annie Cosgrove’s Scots miners songs, “Jolly Wee Miners,” was turned into a Canadian song and much sung by the Men Of the Deeps. I would much appreciate any help with contacts. There is more detail about my project at www.colliertracks.webs.com and I can be contacted at ewanandlinda@btinternet.com.
